COLLINS Gordon Wayne

Born 4 February 1928 in Winnipeg.
He was a sculptor, painter, illustrator, cartoonist and art professor. He illustrated books, comic books, board games, and television commercials. He was awarded the Arthur Award for Artistic Distinction in Painting. For ten years he was a professor of Art and Design at George Brown College of Toronto.
Died 13 November 2019 in Don Mills (Toronto).

JOHNSON Douglas
Born in Toronto. Was educated at the Ontario College of Art (1958-1960) under Frank Neufeld. Moved to the U.S. in 1968. He was part of a group of Canadian illustrators Jamie Bennett, David Chestnutt, Julius Ciss, Heather Cooper, Ken Dallison, Blair Drawson, Gail Geltner, Roger Hill, Tina Holdcraft, Jeff Jackson, Anita Kunz, Doug Martin, Willi Mitschka, Denis Noble, William Russell, Joseph Salina, Mark Summers, Maurice Vellekoop and Rene Zamic, who gained an international reputation in the 1970’s and 80’s.

DAVIES Frank
He studied art and architecture in England and served in the Royal Navy from 1942 to 1946 then migrated to Montréal in 1951. He was a director of Liberty magazine in 1953 and of Maclean-Hunter Business Publications in 1955. He began his own design company in 1962.

MIRSKY Robb
Along with David Craig and James Spencer this Toronto based cartoonist and illustrator forms the Read More Comix Collective. His major influences are Robert Crumb, Peter Bagge and Basil Wolverton. In addition to cartoon strips he does posters and album art for Toronto bands.

NIELSEN Matthew
Born in Wales to a Danish father and Canadian mother, this cartoonist and illustrator who goes by the internet name “Nuclear Jackal” presently lives in Canada (circa 2020). He graduated with an Honours BA in illustration from Hereford College of Arts, United Kingdom.

He was born in Shenzhen China and immigrated with his family to the U.S. when he was nine years old. In 2001 he and his family moved to Vancouver, where he still lives. He graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Business Administration, then studied animation at Capilano University. Lotus Root Children is about child trafficking in China.

MELICK Angela
This Vancouver cartoonist, illustrator and mechanical engineer, is since 2004 the author of the webcomic Wasted Talent an autobiographical comedy about her life as a mechanical engineer. Three collections of these cartoons have been published. In addition to Cloudscape her work has appeared in a number of anthologies as well as the Readers Digest and the Toronto Star. “Storm Ship” was her father’s favourite childhood tale.
