DALLISON Ken

Born 1933 in Hounslow England.
At 14 years, he won a drawing competition and received a scholarship to Twickenham College.
He migrated to Canada and settled in Toronto. The “Florence Bay” serial in Maclean’s was Ken’s first illustration job with a major magazine. Maclean’s sent him to Florencia Bay British Columbia so he could accurately portray the landscape. From there he became part of a group of Canadian illustrators Jamie Bennett, David Chestnutt, Julius Ciss, Heather Cooper, Blair Drawson, Gail Geltner, Roger Hill, Tina Holdcraft, Jeff Jackson, Douglas Johnson, Anita Kunz, Doug Martin, Willi Mitschka, Denis Noble, William Russell, Joseph Salina, Mark Summers, Maurice Vellekoop and Rene Zamic, who gained an international reputation in the 1970’s and 80’s.
He was awarded a gold medal (1970) from the Society of Illustrators, a Cleo Award from the Art Directors Club New York, a Canadian Association Lifetime Achievement Award (1994), The Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce Athena Award of Excellence (1990, 1995, 2001, 2003), and two gold medals from the Detroit Art Directors Club.
He taught at the Ontario College of Art and Design for twenty-five years.
He died 24 May 2024 in Mississauga.
