LANGDALE Kevin

LANGDALE Kevin

This animator and filmmaker is a graduate of Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. His techniques are animation, stop-motion and puppetry.

In addition to individual projects, and magazine illustration, principally with the Georgia Straight, he is a freelance animator and director with the National Film Board. He began freelancing with Global Mechanic (Vancouver) in 2005 and became full time in 2016.

For the N.F.B. he produced Engine 371, an animated film about the effect of the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway on people and the environment. He has collaborated with Ann Marie Fleming on I Was A Holocaust Survivor’s Child, (2010), a “Stickgirl”web series Planet Green, and the animated feature Window Horses (2018). From that feature they produced a graphic novel with the same name.

LANDRY Jean

Born in Quebec City in 1927, he studied at l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts and later in Paris France at l’Ecole des Métiers d’Art in the mid 1950’s. In 1971, he became the caricaturist for La Tribune in Sherbrook Quebec.

LAMONTAGNE Patrick

Born 1971 in Red Deer Alberta.

From about 1998, he was editorial cartoonist for the Banff Craig and Canyon. In September of 2001, he moved to the Rocky Mountain Outlook. His cartoons regularly appeared in a number of daily and weekly newspapers across Canada including The Calgary Herald, The Gazette [Montréal], The Vancouver Sun, and The Ottawa Citizen. He was a regular contributor to Maclean’s when they used cartoonists. He was also a freelance writer and illustrator.

LAMBART Evelyn

LAMBART Evelyn

Born 23 July 1914, in Ottawa.

She studied art at the Ontario College Of Art. She was the first woman to work at the National Film Board joining in 1942. At the beginning she specialized in graphics and maps which were used in The World In Action series. Later she developed a technique of using paper cut-outs of animal characters that can be seen in children films like Mr Frog Went a-Courting and The Town Mouse And The Country Mouse. Other children stories included The Hoarder, Fine Feathers and Paradise Lost. In 1951, with George Dunning she won a Canadian Film Special Award for Family Tree.

She worked in close partnership with Norman McLaren and made important contributions to animated films like Begone Dull Care, Around Is Around, Now Is The Time, Short and Suite, Lines Vertical, Lines Horizontal and Mosaic and the film A Chairy Tale, a combined animation and live action film with actor Claude Jutra. She did the animation on it. Begone Dull Care, Lines Horizontal, and A Chairy Tale all won Canadian Film Special Awards. A Chairy Tale  was nominated for an Academy Award.

She died 3 April 1999.

He graduated from the University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and the University of Guelph with a Master of Fine Arts.

He has exhibited in galleries across Canada and the U.S.A.. His page works, poems and other print experiments have appeared in Descant, Lantern, Misunderstandings, Other Clutter, Pilot, Prairie Fire, Prefix Photo, Rampike, Rusty Toque, SubTerrain and Vallum. His books are: Black Angry Bang (Popnoir Editions 2013), a collection blending graphic design, sound poetry and experimental cartooning; BRICKBRICKBRICK (BookThug 2010), a book of visual poems; and Grey Supreme (Koyama Press 2010) a collection of experiments in image and text.

As Managing Editor and Designer of art/literature magazine Carousel, located at the University of Guelph, in 2012 he initiated the 4 Panel Project as a part of the magazine. To this effort has been added a roughly annual book embodying the as approach taken for the magazine section.
