SIMARD Jean

Born 1916, in Québec.

He studied classics at Petite Séminaire de Québec then studied and graduated in 1939 from École des Beaux-Arts in Montréal. He later taught at that school from 1947 to 1957.

He designed 33 water colour drawings for the 38 postcard set “Des métiers traditionels et des scenes folkloriques”. Published by Production Lacia Enrg in Quebec City. Henri Beaulac designed the other 5.

Born May 1956 in Hamilton.

Creator of Cerebus the Aardvark, Canada’s longest running comic book and one most coveted by U.S. collectors. He was also co-founder of Aardvark-Vanaheim Inc.

He was a Kitchener grade 11 dropout.

SILVERWING

SILVERWING (SHADE)

Based on a silver-haired bat character called “Shade” this television animated series began in 2003 and ran for thirteen episodes. It was based on Kenneth Oppel’s best-selling novel Silverwing, (1997) which was followed by: Sunwing, Firewing and Darkwing.

For the series, the writers were Gary Jones & Richard Side. The director was Keith Ingram and the producer was Cathy Schoch. The animation company was Bardel Entertainment located in Vancouver British Columbia.

SILVER SNAIL                                                                                                                    Location: 321 Queen Street. West, Toronto, Ontario.                                                        Owner: Ron Van Leeuwen.

A comic book retail outlet owned by Ron Van Leeuwen, at one point it owned Andromeda Publications Ltd. and Andromeda Distribution. Ron Van Leeuwen sold it and it was moved to the plaza on the corner of Dundas and Yonge Streets in Toronto. It ceased operations in 2016.

Created by Adrian Dingle after he moved to Bell Features,

Jimmie Clarkson a Canadian Ace with the RAF is shot down over Berlin. Here he is rescued by Karen Von Bergner whose brother Otto leads an underground movement and is known as “The Sign of Freedom”. Otto is killed by the Gestapo but before he dies he names Jimmie as his successor and “The Sign of Freedom. What follows is Jimmie’s adventures against the Nazi.
