LEGAULT Edmond T.

LEGAULT Edmond T.

Almost nothing is known about this enigmatic creator. It was due to him that Cy Bell got into publishing graphic periodicals. Appearing from nowhere, he brought two creations “Dart Daring” and “Whiz Wallace” to Cy in an effort to convince him to start a periodical based on them. Cy declined but the War Exchange Conservation Act was introduced and Cy launched WOW Comics based on both of Ed’s creations. Ed went on as a cartoonist to introduce Dixon of the Mounted and as a writer to launch “Thunder Fist”. As shown in Thrilling Adventures For Boys, he also appears to have written short stories. He joined the armed services.

In Joke Comics 23, Bell Features reported that “Gun crew member of the Royal Canadian Artillery” Ed Legault who trained at Valleyfield, Quebec was being released from the armed services and would be returning to Bell. Beyond this point Ed T. Legault disappeared.

Who this talented artist was and what became of him is one of the major mysteries to come out of the wartime comic book industry.
