KOZHEVNIKOVA Kensia

Born and raised in Russia now living in Vancouver (2012).

A digital artist (formerly at Rainmaker Studios, an animation company in Vancouver) painter and illustrator she studied at Capilano University, Vancouver.

She partnered with Cloudscape writer Bevan Thomas to produce “Canada Jacques” and with Matthew Klippenstein to create “Castor The Toqued Avenger”.

Annie Koyama started Koyama Press in 2007 with the intention of publishing art books, but the retail outlets handling these book were closing and art galleries were cutting back and so she turned to graphic publications, first printing tee shirts in support of local artists, then moving into books with the publication the collective Trio Magus’ first book Trio Magus: Equally Superior. Over the next ten years, Koyama Press has become an established alternate press.

KOYAMA Annie

She worked at the National Film Board and some other film and advertising jobs which led to her heading Canada’s largest film production company for 10 years. Health issues, endometriosis and migraines defined the next decade of her life. It was discovered she had a brain aneurysm, which was healed by surgery which revealed she had a second inoperable aneurysm. This changed her outlook on life and as a result she launched into publishing, opening Koyama Press in 2007.

KOWSAR Nikahang

KOWSAR Nikahang “NIK”

Born 1969.

He studied geology at Tehran University and worked for more than 20 newspapers (mostly banned by the Press court) over 13 years. His work was published worldwide through the Cartoonists and Writers Syndicate. He faced prosecution for more than a 160 of his published cartoons then in February 2000, he was imprisoned for a cartoon. He was threatened with death several times and is exiled from Iran.

He has sat on the board of directors of Cartoonist’s Rights Network International. He has won the Crystal Pen, given to Iran’s best journalists, three times, in 2001 the International Award Of Courage In Editorial Cartooning, again in 2001, second prize in the National Press Club of Canada’s editorial cartoon contest. He has published six books, four of them best sellers in Iran.

He lives in Toronto.

He left his native Poland in 1977, spent a year in Sweden then moved to Canada. “I heard so many good things about Canada.”

His spare wry drawings exemplify a European style. Communication World magazine once named him one of the 10 top humorous illustrators in the world.

His work ranges from animated commercials, through concept illustrations, a subject he teaches at the Ontario College of Art and Sheridan College to illustrations for Chatelaine, Esquire, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone and Toronto Life plus newspaper work in Canada and the U.S.A.

This Toronto based animator was Director at Disney Canada. He created the sequel to Beauty and the Beast. His independent film Rebecca won second prize at the 1997 World Animation Festival.
