This writer illustrator contributed to the Canadian Magazine and Courier. She studied at the Art Student’s League in New York, followed by studies in Paris, Switzerland, Italy and Holland. She painted landscapes and portraits and in 1908 had Little Sam of Volendam” a book of rhymes and pictures published. She was engaged overseas in war work during World War 1.

In 1995 at age 33 years Chris was President of the Toronto Cartoonists Society. For four years he had been a full time cartoonist after ditching his job as a freelance graphic artist. He supplemented his income as a cartoonist by selling gags to more established cartoonists working for prime publications like Playboy.

KELLY John David
Born in Gore’s Landing Ontario, He studied at the Ontario School of Art under Marmaduke Matthews and John Fraser (1882). He worked as an illustrator for Grip Limited (1882-1885) and Toronto Lithographing Co. (!884 – 1956). He travelled and painted in Bermuda, Lake Nipissing in Ontario, Manitoba (1885). Europe (1886), and across Canada (1911, 1929). He is best known for his detail and accurate historical works like the “Gallery of Canadian History” and “Fathers of Confederation”. He was a charter member of the Art Students’ League of Toronto and a founding member of the Graphic Arts Club. His work is in the collection of the Art Gallery of Ontario.
