PACHTER Charles
Born 30 December 1942 in Toronto.
This painter, printmaker, sculptor and graphic designer studied the French language at the Sorbonne in Paris France, Art history at the University of Toronto and painting and graphic design at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Michigan.
He has had exhibits at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Royal Ontario Museum and the McMichael Canadiana Gallery. In Toronto’s College Street subway station you can see his mural “Hockey Knights In Canada/Les Rois de l’ Arène”.
His playful images of Queen Elizabeth, the moose and the flag of Canada have earned them icon status in our popular culture.

Born 1957 in Pennsylvania, U.S.A.
In 1979, he graduated from a program of illustration and animation at Rhode Island School of Design. He worked for a year as editorial illustrator at the Providence Journal Bulletin, and as a freelance assistant art director and layout artist for a local ad agency. In 1980, he moved to Boston where for five years he freelanced as illustrator, art director, graphic designer and storyboard artist for several ad agencies.
In 1985, he migrated to Montréal, where he illustrated regularly for Croc, Safarir, and Interest, a Royal Bank magazine. He contributed editorial cartoons to Montreal Daily News. He co-authored books, A Beginner’s Guide To Canadian Humour and A Cynic’s Guide To Coping With Life.
