CRASH CARSON
This character was created by Jack Tremblay when he was 15 years old It first appeared in Bell Features publication WOW Comics 8 in the spring 1942, and ran till WOW Comics 16.
“Crash Carson” who had a constant companion “Tank Mulligan” was a fighter pilot who led the “Devil’s Angels Squadron”. The stories predominantly involved air battles with interludes like the one partly shown below ( WOW Comics, 9:46) in which “Crash” is shot down, captured by Germans then escapes in a German aircraft and is nearly shot down by his own squadron.
Jack’s talent for accurately drawing World War 2 aircraft was exceptional only equaled perhaps surpassed by Al Cooper. It is easy to see that “Crash Carson” was inspired by the character “Rockfist Rogan” a boxer and R.A.F. fighter pilot flying Hurricanes and Spitfires, who appeared in the British boy’s magazines like The Triumph and The Champion that Jack read.
