RUFFO Armand Garnet

Born in Chapleau Ontario.

He has received degrees from York University, University of Ottawa and University of Windsor. He has taught creative writing at the Banff Centre For The Arts and indigenous literature at En’owkin International School of Writing in Penticton British Columbia. He is Queen’s National Scholar In Indigenous Literature at Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario.

His publications include: Water Lily Woman, Introduction To Indigenous Literary Criticism, Thunderbird Poems, and Grey Owl: the Mystery of Archie Belaney..

In 2000 he won the Canadian Author’s Association Prize For Poetry. This was followed in 2002 with the Archibald Lampman Award for Poetry for At Geronimo’s Grave. In 2010 for his film A Windigo Tale, won the People’s Choice Award at the Bay Street Film Festival in Thunder Bay, Best Picture at the Dream speakers Film festival in Edmonton and Best Film at The American Indian Festival in San Francisco.

He grew up in Saskatoon and now (2018) lives in Calgary.

He graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design and is now (2018) an instructor there.

In 2006, he collaborated with writer Alex Grecian to produce Seven Sons and later, Proof 1-6, 2007 to 2012, Image. Other Image titles include periodicals Green Wake (April 2011 to February 2012) with writer Kurtis J. Wiebe, and Bedlam 1 to 6, October 2012 to April 2013, with writer Nick Spenser. He has also worked on DC and Marvel titles.
