TEMPLETON Ty

TEMPLETON Ty

He attended the Royal Conservatory of Music and was a co-host of CITY-TV’s “Late Great Movies”. Later drawing on his experiences at the Royal Conservatory of Music, he created Stig’s Inferno published first by Vortex Comics Inc. then Eclipse. It was the story of a young man in hell.

According to Dave Darrigo, most of Ty’s U.S. work was done for DC Comics. Mad Dog was one of his rare Marvel projects the other being Spider-Man Human Torch. He was involved in all six issues and did the covers plus half the contents. He used a 50/60’s “faux” style. The other half was done in modern style by other artists.

The comic was an “in joke for comic fans. The “Mad Dog” character came from Bob Newhart’s TV show “Bob”. Newhart played the creator Bob McKay, an old man and comics legend. Darrigo thought Templeton “…was a perfect choice for this odd adaption of a TV show.” His half of the comic was worth reading for its satire.
