TAGAQ Tanya

Born 5 May 1975, in Cambridge Bay or Iqualuktuutiaq Nunavut. She wrote the graphic story “9 Mile Lake” for the graphic anthology published by Moonshot Alternate History Comics Inc.

A throat singer, artist and author from Iqualuktuutiaq Nunavut, she has received:            2014 Polaris Prize winner for Animism.                                                                              2014 Canadian Folk Music Pushing The Boundary Award.                                              2015 Juno Awards Aboriginal Recording Of The Year for Animism.                                  2015 2010 Western Canadian Music Awards: Aboriginal Recording Of The Year, Spiritual Recording of the Year, World Recording of the Year                                            2017 Juno Award, Classical Album – Large Ensemble for Going Home Star.

In December 2016 she was inducted as a Member Of The Order Of Canada.
