BLUE DRAGON

BLUE DRAGON

This graphic story illustrated by Fred Jourdain is based on the trilingual play of the same name by Robert Lepage and Marie Michaud. This play in turn is a sequel to the “brilliant theatrical collaboration” The Dragons’ Trilogy by the same team.

“Pierre Lamontagne, a Québécois art dealer living in China, owns a gallery in Shanghai. Claire Forêt runs an advertising agency in Montréal. When Claire arrives in China to adopt a baby, she casts a decidedly western eye on Pierre’s existence in exile. Old attractions are rekindled, but simmering disapproval of each other’s life choices quickly erupts into confrontation. Enter Xiao Ling, a Chinese artist exhibiting her work at Pierre’s gallery. Xiao Ling, too, faces wrenching choices, and her predicament awakens hopes long buried in Claire. The highly charged intersection of these three passionate people opens new and unexpected doors on the future for them all.”

Born 1 January 1954 in Ottawa.

During his childhood, he moved back and forth between Canada and southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Cambodia, etc.

In 1978, he founded Night Wyn Enterprises to produce his creation “Elflord”. Night Wynd did a short stint in animation doing the opening animated sequence on You Can’t Do That On Television a television show on Ottawa’s CJOH. In 1982 Nickelodeon joined CJOH to become co-producer of the show. In 1985, Barry retired the Night Wynd imprint and joined with Ken Campbell to found Aircel Publishing Ltd. which used many of the Night Wynd characters. After the sale of Aircel in 1988 to Malibu Graphics, Barry moved his studio to New York to oversee the production of various Aircel titles. However, Malibu cancelled the “Elflord” and “Samurai” and so in June 1991 Barry left  and resurrected the Night Wynd imprint with himself as President and Eiwin Mark, longtime associate, as Editor. Through it he revived “Elflord” as Elflord: The Return of the King, and added Blitz, Dragonfire: The Classified Files, Elfheim, Elflore, Foxfire, Samurai and Serpentyne. In 1992, Night Wynd took it upon itself to promote AIDS awareness by carrying a message asking readers to donate their time, supplies and money to local AIDS organizations.

He died 3 January 2010 of an aneurism.
