Born 1955, in Sault Ste. Marie, but grew up in Kirkland Lake.
He graduated from the University of Guelph, in 1977 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He began freelance cartooning in Toronto for various publications including Books in Canada, The Last Post, The Canadian Forum, and Maclean’s. When Jenkin’s took a year’s sabbatical from the Globe & Mail in 1978, Mallette was hired to do spot illustrations and occasional editorial cartoon filling in for Franklin.
In 1980, be moved to Winnipeg and joined the Free Press as illustrator. After the death of Peter Kuch, the editorial cartoonist for the Free Press, he began doing daily editorial cartoons.
He returned to Toronto to attend art school and freelance illustrating. His cartoons appeared regularly in The Saturday Winnipeg Free Press and the Financial Post. His illustrations have appeared in many publications including The Financial Post Magazine, Canadian Business Magazine, Toronto Life, The Globe and Mail.
