Born 21 July 1903 in Gainsborough Lincolnshire England he migrated to Toronto in 1920.

He studied at the Ontario College of Art and after graduating he worked for various art studios. In the 1930’s, he became a freelancer, contributing to Maclean’s and Canadian Home Journal and various advertising companies. He painted “The Macdonald’s Lassie” which was used for decades by Macdonald Tobacco on their Export A cigarettes. He recreated Robert Harris’ “Fathers of Confederation” which was destroyed by the 1916 Parliament Buildings fire. The picture was commissioned by Confederation Life Assurance as a gift to the nation in 1967.

He died 18 November 1987. A large body of his work resides at the Royal Ontario Museum.
