AROUND OUR TOWN

AROUND OUR TOWN

A humourous cartoon strip/panel it first appeared in the Montreal Gazette about 1945 and was still appearing in that newspaper in 1960. Created by Gordie Moore it portrayed everyday events occurring in Montréal.

“His characters are nameless, ordinary people going about the exhausting business Of living. In the hustle and bustle of the big town his cynical and sarcastic wit plays the field. Few public utilities, or those toilers who have to deal with crowds of people, escape the barbs of his humour. But it is all in fun. The daily aggregations of crowded street cars, jostling pedestrians, rude motorists, sardine housing, and assorted tribulations only affect Moore’s funny bone. There are few indeed, when the humour of a bad situation is exposed, who cannot exchange a scowl for a reasonable facsimile of a smile.”
